Breakfast with Shane O’Reilly, Managing Director of O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat and Chairman of Queensland Tourism Industry Council

While the Gold Coast is traditionally known for its sun, surf and sand, Shane O'Reilly and his family have spent more than a century developing a hinterland alternative.

Family owned and operated O'Reilly's Rainforest Retreat, located in the World Heritage-listed Lamington National Park, has grown to employ more than 130 staff, and turn over $13 million annually.

The tourism drawcard features 66 rainforest retreat accommodation rooms, 48 self-contained eco villas, a conference centre and spa, all set within 20,000 hectares of rainforest.

In addition, the O'Reilly family is also responsible for O'Reilly's Canungra Valley Vineyards - a boutique vineyard and historic Queenslander homestead that is dedicated to fine food and wine and is becoming a huge part of the overall business.

Shane O'Reilly is set to address the Gold Coast Central Chamber of Commerce at a special breakfast event at Crowne Plaza Surfers Paradise on Thursday 14 July.

Find out how his family has been able to create such an iconic destination as well as offer his tips and advice for making it in the hospitality and tourism industry.
