Surf Parade Place Making Project - Broadbeach update November 1
The Surf Parade $4.5 million redevelopment is nearing completion of Stage 1 and are on track to be complete by December for the Christmas holiday season.
Stage 1 works completion date
A completion date for Stage 1 has been identified as 9 December 2016. (Date subject to change due to weather or other circumstance that impact on construction activity).
To date the City has made significant upgrades to the underground infrastructure. These include future proofing the storm water capacity, realigning and installation of a new water main and valves along the street, installation of new electrical and data pits and conduits along both sides of the street to connect to 20 new light poles that include roadway and pedestrian lighting, installation of new slim drain, kerb and channel along the entire length of the street and have commenced constructing a brand new road.
Melbourne Cup Day
The site will be closed from 12:00pm on Tuesday 1 November 2016 to enable businesses to hold functions and private events for the Melbourne Cup Carnival.
Open for business
A live broadcast date has also been scheduled for radio and social media (Facebook and Twitter) to alert locals and vistors of the completion of Stage 1 works and reopening of Surf Parade for holiday and Christmas trade.
Pedestrian crossings and traffic control Pedestrian access to businesses remains open at all times.
Detours may be in place at times to ensure safety.
Ongoing November works will include:
- final section of slimline drain and v-drain and pit installation along Surf Parade
- ongoing preparation of subgrade and road construction
- electrical conduit installation in Victoria Park (mid November)
- ongoing preparation for light pole footings and electrical connections
- pathway reconfiguration along eastern side of Surf Parade at pedestrian crossing points.
