A message from Ros Bates, State Member for Mudgeeraba, September 2016
on 8 September 2016
Over the past month, I've been working as hard as ever in the Mudgeeraba electorate for local businesses and residents and also holding the Labor Government to account as the Shadow Minister for Communities, Women and Youth, Child Safety and the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence and Shadow Minister for Disability Services and Seniors.
At the Mudgeeraba Chamber of Commerce, we've seen some big changes in recent times. Congratulations to Nerise Moore on your election as President I know you'll be a steady hand at the helm of the Chamber for the next twelve months and look forward to working with you. Special thanks to John Forrester for your outstanding tenure; you will be missed.
Unfortunately, as we've seen some changes at our local Chambers, nothing has changed under the current Government. On the Gold Coast, over 18,000 people remain unemployed according to the latest Labour Force data from July. As of 18 August, employment in Queensland has fallen for six months in a row.
Trend employment in Queensland has fallen for the sixth straight month with 22,400 Queenslanders losing their jobs since the current Government took office. These are the worst jobs loss of any state in Australia. Concurrently, building approvals have fallen for six consecutive months as at 30 August.
Businesses and residents in the Mudgeeraba electorate are continuing to feel the negative impact of decisions by this Government, but I'll continue to work with you to hold the current Government to account. If I can ever assist you, please do not hesitate to get in touch with my office.
