Productivity Commission
We’re taking action to improve productivity across Queensland’s construction sector, following concerns raised by the independent Queensland Productivity Commission.
The Commission’s interim report highlights a noticeable decline in productivity since 2018, which has contributed to around 77,000 fewer homes being built. It also warns that current challenges, including Building Product Information Certificates (BPICs), could cost the community up to $20.6 billion by 2029–30 and increase project costs by as much as 25%.
The final report is expected in October, after further consultation with industry stakeholders. We’re committed to working closely with the sector to get construction back on track and deliver better outcomes for Queenslanders.
2032 Games Venues – Building a Lasting Legacy
Exciting steps are being taken to ensure the successful delivery of venues and infrastructure for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Recent changes to planning laws will help keep the project on track, while also laying the foundations for benefits that will last well beyond the Games.
To support timely and efficient development, the newly established Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority (GIICA) has been granted special powers to streamline planning processes. These updates will help deliver world-class facilities in line with the 2032 Delivery Plan — on time and within budget.
The focus remains firmly on creating legacy infrastructure that communities will use and enjoy for decades to come.
On the Gold Coast, exciting upgrades include:
- A new Athletes’ Village at Royal Pines Resort
- Enhancements to the Gold Coast Hockey Centre
- Improvements to the high-frequency bus network
- A new arena, to be delivered by the City of Gold Coast
To support these developments, the Australian Government has confirmed that its $3.435 billion contribution to the overall $7.1 billion Games Venue Infrastructure Program will be carefully refined and reallocated — ensuring every dollar helps deliver long-term value.
These changes mark an important step toward delivering a Games we can all be proud of — one that supports Queensland communities now and into the future.
GCLR3
The ‘Love your Local’ promotion has been launched which sees some Miami residents living near the Stage 3 project receiving $50 vouchers in their letterboxes to spend at nearby local restaurants, cafes, and retail businesses. A total of 300 vouchers are being distributed each week to different homes from Miami to Burleigh, near the Stage 3 route.
GoldlinQ CEO Phil Mumford said the vouchers, which would be delivered until late November, recognised the impacts of construction and traffic changes occurring in the southern part of the alignment between now and the summer holidays. They are nearing the end of construction in the north but there is a lot of work to be done in the south to ensure we have passenger services operating by mid-2026.
