Greetings Members
As we head towards the Queensland state election in 80 days time, we are seeing incredible cash-splashes from the Queensland Government in a last minute attempt to woo the votes of struggling Queenslanders.
The 50 cent public transport fares are a blatant pork-barrelling political exercise 3 months before an election. The problem is that this incentive will only add to the strain on the State economy by increasing the current state debt level by $150 Million and contributing to further cost of living pressures. Furthermore, the current Gold Coast public transport system does not have the infrastructure or capacity to maintain an efficient system with increased patronage. The Gold Coast Light rail Stage 3 construction works are already adding considerable strain to the already dilapidated public transport system, the last thing we need is a government that doesn’t understand what is right for the economy.
Another cost-of-living blow to small business has been the 19% increase in electricity prices under this Labor Government who own the power generating companies. They have failed to fix the coal fired power station at Callide for the past 3 years and when fixed, it would have delivered cheaper power. If we become Government on October 26, we will move immediately to fix Callide and we will pursue other avenues of delivering cheaper electricity prices to small businesses and householders alike. Labor’s philosophical crusade to renewables over burning fossil fuel is costing Queensland businesses and householders dearly in a cost-of-living crisis with no relief in sight of cheaper interest rates hurting mortgage holders badly which in turn affects their business spend.
And the current State Government has continued making ridiculous and unfunded election promises with the latest thought bubble being State owned petrol service stations. How desperate is this Government making silly announcements without any costings, consultation or capacity to deliver their promise? It tells everyone that their past nine years of governance has been a debacle and we don’t deserve another 4 years of Labor mayhem! That’s why we need to show Labor the door in 2024.
As always, if you have any State issues you would like to discuss with me, don’t hesitate to contact my office.
